there is this place called the sinsinawa straddle near our town and has the status be known of baking yummy bread and giving some organ like concerts in the summer when dubuque’ers have a all of straightaway to kill and don’t mind the tedious 10 minutes drive. then we discovered that it is actually a livelihood chance by the dominican sisters, not sure if it’s in the end a convent or not, but they do live there. yesterday, at a desperate attempt to do “something” earlier school starts again for nathan we drove to the mound with thomas bundled up like a dumpling in the carseat. we explored a Lilliputian, and went straight to the bookstore. amidst rows and rows of pebbles carved “peace” and colorful mexican fannypacked patent “fair trade”, low and behold, we found dan brown and his davinci code right there on the shelf, smelling justified as odious as the cinnamon bread right next to it. barely recovering from this jolt, i explored the “world spirituality” shelf and create loads of zen trash as nicely, you know, like the coterie is a pit of sand in your heart that kind of clever stuff. then we stepped into the chapel, another one of these sixties or seventies spaceship like construction, and was really baffled at the sight that all seats are facing the aisle rather than of the altar. i theory it might be normal, but couldn’t help thinking that it’s another sixties syndrome of confusing commune and communism with communion. then we went downstairs and heard people singing. i didn’t know what the song was but decided it sounded too tipsy and nathan informed me that it was called “callendar girl”. i guess the sisters might from great reasons to accomodate such diversity of distractions on their campus, but couldn’t help leaving with a less than sanctified or cleansed feeling, cinnamon buns not withstanding.
